The Guild Workshop – 20 October 2025
Despite the wet and gloomy driving conditions, a small group of 6 members turned up for this evening workshop where we explored ways of using lifting-out techniques in various media. Those using a graphite base and erasing the lighter tones of their subject definitely achieved the more detailed images. When using watercolour, results varied depending on the sizing of the paper and the use of non-staining colours. A base layer of gesso on paper produced a cleaner lift out of subsequent overlays of watercolour or gouache, but it was also easier to accidently remove too much colour. Definitely some lessons learned.
