Jane Billington

Prompted by a move from East Anglia to Wiltshire and having time to spare, I have recently returned to art having done little since my school days.  However, I was closely involved with the arts as Assistant Curator at Gainsborough's House in Suffolk.

I have recently been accepted as a Member of Marlborough Artists

I love the discipline of portraiture, the freedom of large scale acrylics and mixed media and the softness of watercolours.

Last summer I spent a week on the North Devon coast with its extraordinary cliff formations and beautiful wildflowers. At home I have Hackpen Hill on the Ridgeway in all its moods and time spent in North Oxfordshire and Scotland with my family to inspire me.

I feel that the following (and other) quotes from Cezanne express my attitude to art:
"It's so fine and yet so terrible to stand in front of a blank canvas"
"To paint is not to copy the object slavishly; it is to grasp a harmony among many relationships"

I am happy to take commissions for portraits of dogs, cats and other pets.
